Ciner Group will extract soda ash of Kazan

Ciner Group, starting to produce soda ash in Beypazarı with investment of 375 million dollars at the beginning of 2009, had taken over operating license of natural trona reserve of 1 billion 650 million tons in Ankara, Kazan region. It is anticipated that total production of the group reaches 2 million tons and then 3 million tons when production is started in this new field.

Ciner Group purchased all the shares of Riotur Madencilik having operating license of natural trona reserve of 1 billion 650 million tons within the field with size of 19 thousand and 500 hectares in Ankara Kazan region that belongs to world mining giant Company Rio Tinto. Ciner Group, which still has operating license of reserve of 247 million tons in Ankara Beypazarı, purchase business of 1 billion 897 million tons with this transfer.

Ciner Group, bringing its soda ash production plants in Beypazarı into service with an investment of 375 million dollars, in March, 2009, rolled up its sleeves to for the new investment in Ankara, Kazan. Ciner Group authorities, stating that they started pilot studies when field was purchased, said that they will start investment towards the end of this year. Ciner Group, having soda ash production of 1 million 100 thousand tons per year with natural methods from trona ore located in Ankara Beypazarı, is planning to produce firstly soda ash of 1 million ton in Kazan and then of 2 million tons per year. It is stated that when the plants are completed, it will be the largest producer of Europe in soda ash production of Turkey.

IT WAS UNLOOKED BEFOREHAND

The field with size of 19 thousand and 500 hectares that is located in Ankara Kazan region and whose license is in Rio Tinto, was not seen among total processable reserves of Turkey beforehand. It reached 1.9 billion tons after processability of the said trona mine became clear and thorium reserve of Turkey of 247 million tons, and thorium mine located in Kazan region is processable.

One of 10 main raw materials of the industry

Soda ash, obtained from thorium mine, is one of 10 main raw materials of industry. Soda ash, which is used in about 200 productions especially in glass industry, chemistry, textile and paper industries, is located in Ankara, Turkey. It is stated that soda ash consumption of the world is around 35 million tons per year and that its monetary value is at a level of 4.5-5 million dollars. It is observed that request in the world inclined towards natural soda ash from synthetic soda.

90 percent is exported

Approximately 90 percent of soda ash, produced in the plants of Ciner Group in Beypazarı, is exported.
